The Axe must be crafted in two stages at the Object Crafting Rock.
Firstly, you'll need the Axe Head Template (in the game it's called the Axe Head Recipe) - trade with Ms. Weeder for this (she simply wants one Black Bug and one Fuchsia Bug for this).
Craft the Axe head using one Flint and one Rock.
Secondly, for the actual Axe, you'll need the Axe Head (which you just made) as well as one Vine and the Pirate's Wooden Leg - you'll get this from Suzy McDress.
When you get the Pirate's Wooden Leg from Suzy, you'll get the template for the Axe.
