Im right at that part too and I can't get it so my friend said throw barrels back at the ape but it didn't work but you can try it hope this helps

I found this on another cheat site thought it might help.To take out the Stubborn Ape you'll need to remove all the pins in his structure. Start with the Hand of Buddha on the bottom left and grab the two nearby pins. Climb the ladder and go to the right to get 3 more pins%u2014don't forget the one below the Hand of Buddha. Take out any baddies and head up and to the left. Pull out two pins here, and then grab the last Stacy Seal before pulling the final pin on the right. Note: if you are stuck in this part, and you believe you cannot reach the upper pins, here is the solution: You just need to make a huge double jump on the second level, from the platform on the right, so you can pull the remaining pins out with the Hand of Buddha. It may not look like you can make the jump, but you can. You need to press jump again right at the peak of your jump to get to the platform
