Bartman begins

Have got Bart as far as the statue's arm with the sword in it after climbing the vines and jumping off the statue's head.Assume the sword should extend enabling Bart to walk over it but no amount of jumping and shooting or combinations of same has any effect.I know a 3 year old could do it but I passed that age 65 years ago.Damn you Santa.I'll be back.

Go to the platform with the 2 guards. There is a target there. Hold up on the D-pad then press A. A door opens up and you move on
