Is there a cheat to open the cannon outside the castle?

When you go outside of the castle make your screen facing the back of Mario and dive into the bottom of the tree on the hill beside the cannon and swim around until you see the cannon. You need to walk underneath the ground to get to the cannon and it should be ready for launch. Do not move the cannon to change the angle. Just press A to shoot. You do not have to have a certain amount of stars.
