Question for Super Mario 64 DS

I am confused every time i try to walk up to red ? box I jump right through it can someone please tell me how to activate the red ? boxes.

Ok, when you enter the castle you should see a light, press A an someone should say something but when you press the first person button and look up you will land some where in the sky.

The light might not be there if not you need to get more stars.

When you have 20 stars you might notice a light shining down from the castle hall.

Look up into the light and you will enter the wing cap course.

Jump on the big switch in there and all wing cap blocks will be usable in all courses.

If you have 14 stars or more hit x and look into the light you will enter a stage with the wing cap go down until you see a small platform in the middle of 4 towers (you can see it on the minimap on the touch screen) hit the red ? Switch. After jumping on the ? Switch you will be asked to save
