How do you get to use the cannon outside of the castle

You need to get 150 stars to unlock it.
To get 150 stars, you have to get all 7 stars in all 15 paintings/levels, plus 100 coins in each normal level. (when you get 100 coins in a level, you get a star.)
Also, you must get all 30 secret stars. These include stars in the castle that are not actual levels, getting all the red coins and other stars in the mario/wario/luigi paintings, and getting all the red coins and switch stars in each of the bowser levels.
Getting all 150 stars takes a lot of time and patience. I just got my 150th star today. Once you get all 150, the cage over that cannon will dissappear and... I don't want to spoil what happens next.
PS try beating bowser all three times and getting the princess. That's more easy and fun.
