When you unlock Wario, you can smash it.
Note, you can only destroy those boxes with Wario, only him. Unless you wear the hat, of course.
You cannot do anything with that Black Box. You're going to have to wait until you unlock Wario, or acquire his hat. Other than that you're going to be unable to break it.
To get wario you need to have luigi. Then go to the big mirror room.there should be a power flower.grab that, go through the mirror and hop into the wario painting.beat chief chilly and you have wario's key!notice all the rescue levels are pictures of the person you rescue.
