To get custom parts you first have to excavate those pink mystery stones. You will often find a mystery stone in the shape of a dinosaurs head. Those will have custom parts. You then can put your spectrobes in the incubator. On the farthest left hand corner, there will be an icon. Click on it. Then click on your spectrobes. There now will be four icons. ClicK on the one that shows a really bad drawing of a hand. You then can attach custom parts.
