Do i still have generation 1 skills in generation 2?

I'm asking because I did alot of hard work on my skills in generation 1 (where you play as the main character 'kyle' or whatever you named him and I'm wondering if skills get reset and all my hard work goes for not...are these skill levels passed down to your child as if nothing happened?
