Well, it's hard to say what's a wrong Pokemon and what the best starter would be, seeing as everyone that plays the game has a different opinion. I could give you a rough rundown of the starter Pokemon, to help you see the advantages and disadvantages of each.
Chikorita, would be the first to go over with this. Through it, you get the Pokemon line of Chikorita, Bayleef, and Meganium. Now this one would probably be for those seeking a challenge in the game, seeing as it's type puts it at a disadvantage in the first few gyms. Pick it if you're a fan of grass and just want something of a challenge out of the game.
Totodile would be the second to look at. Through it, you get the Pokemon line of Totodile, Croconaw, and Feraligatr. Some may argue that this is the best looking set of Pokemon out of the starter but it's really more of a neutral path, when talking about difficulty. There are a lot of water types in this game so the Pokemon you have would be put up against a lot of the same, making damage taken and received small.
Lastly would be Cyndaquil. Through it, you get the Pokemon line of Cyndaquil, Quilava, and Typhlosion. An obvious fan favorite, it makes it a little bit easier to get through the game if you chose this Pokemon as your starter. Fire types have strong attacks, and this would be a Pokemon for someone just wishing to speed through the game.
That's really all I can say. Hope you take this information and make the right choice.
Cyndaquil is my personal favourite choice, as good Fire types are difficult to come by for the majority of the game. Arcanine and Ninetails aren't choices because you can't get Fire Stones until you reach Kanto. Totodile is just as good as Cyndaquil, with the difference being there are several other Water types available early on in the game that you can use instead.
Chikorita is the worst of the three. Not a bad Pokemon, but it has quite a boring movepool and Grass types really aren't that useful until you've reached Kanto, and even then only to extent (and also nothing much that a Water type and an Electric type can't handle).
No, cyndaquil has many weeknesses the best is chikorita
In response to rirjh, Chikorita has more weaknesses than Cyndiquil.
Cynidiquil: Water, Ground, Rock
Chikorita: Ice, Flying, Poison, Bug, Fire
i'd say totidile because it is good all around in stats and it makes it easy to beat all the gyms. i mean i did it
yah deffinately cyndiquil to get an easy game
chikorita sucks totodile is okay while cyndaquil rocks !!!
Cyndaquil is the best starter Pokemon because when it is a typhloision it gets to know a strong move blast burn going on quilava is cool!
II got the game a month ago and I chose Cyndaquil. I LOVE Qualava so I have a lvl 59 Qualava because I don't really like typhoosion. But Cyndaquil has weaknesses all Pokemon do but I foound cyndaquil to be the best. My friends have the game and we all picked diffrent Pokemon as I chose cyndalquil and my friends think that it is the best. Hope this helps
Ill give you a good idea what to teach your Cyndiquill all the way till the elite four.
Cyndaquil wrecks everything, exspecily when it learns ember at like lv10!
When it learns flame wheel youll probally be using that more.
The next good move I reccon will be a long keeper is probally swift,I know some might reject it but is gaurnted not to miss!
Lava plume ends a fight with in seconds,it is killer in Clairs gym.And I just love the animation for it.
When you get Typlosion get it to learn Blast burn, youll problly keep this till at lest Kanto.
Youll have to get your Typlosion to learn Flame thrower b4 you face the elite 4!
So you have a fire, water and grass I had the grass and no I had the water no and I had the fire and it was amasing so I would pick fire because I had all of them if you ge the water or grass type you should start over fast.
I really like Cyndaquil because it evloves into Typhlosion, but I suggest getting Tododile and then catch a Pidgey. Pidgey is very easy to level up and if you pick a water type starter your rival will pick a grass type. Flying is super effective against grass.
If you pick Cyndaquil and you want a Pokemon just as strong as Feraligatr just go capture a Gyrados. If your going to pick Tododile and get pidgey be sure to get a ground type Pokemon( I learn that the hard way).
Cyndaquil is cool thoght but that will be keeping you away from getting charmander
Tododile is the best! First he's very strong. Second he has an awesome elovution. Third he turns into a giant corcadile! Thats what my starter was and he helped me alot. And he would help you ALOT!!!!!
WHY YOU NO CHOOSE CYNDAQUIL ლ(ಠ益ಠლ Cyndaquil is my personal favorite because there are not alot of fire type Pokemon in this game. Fire type Pokemon are always the strongest. (I.e Blast Burn) Chikorita is my 2nd favorite Pokemon. They're TOO many Grass type Pokemon. Chikorita is also pretty strong. My Friend recommends this Pokemon. Totodile is good but there are a lot of Water type Pokemon so I suggest to not choose this. Hope you Liked this!
I love how everyone always talks smack on the grass types. People who never tried to use grass Pokemon don't know how strong they really are. They can either paralyze, poison, or put a Pokemon to sleep. They can do damage with a giga drain and get back health. A Sleeping Powder with either Giga Drain, Solarbeam, or other such combos can def turn the tables in your favor and a grass type started can hurt Red's Pikachu rather quick if you play em right. Now all that said I am a Bulbasaur and Treecko Fan. In the Johto games I prefer Cyndaquil. With a Bellsprout easy to get early on and the fact that I have a love for Kingler I already have most of my basis covered. Victoreebell is a pretty good grass type and can easily beat maganium since it has poison type attacks too. Hope this helps everyone!
Actually your team can be .....
Typhalosion, gyarados or lanturn with volt charge ,any grass type if you want , amphurous, pidgeot or crossbat,tyranitar..... I prefered it I know grass is weak but leaf storm is awefull
Tootodile will evenchaly learn moves that all together are super efective against all types but posin, fight electric and water
Totodile because it helps you a lot and also in the elite four, moves: surf, crunch, ice fang, cut.
Totodile and Cyndaquil would be the best choices. Fire-types are stronger than Water-types and Grass-types, this meaning their attacks cause more damage.
Totodile's a good choice too, for it's evolved form is really strong.
I chose Cyndaquil, and I now have a Typhlosion who can faint Water-types, Ground-types, and Rock-types. (All it's weaknesses.)
Personally, I'd say go with Cyndaquil. It's strong so it makes the game easier.
Totodile would be a great second choice. Just try not to go with Chikorita- Grass-types are the weakest.
Chikeritu has the mots swag. More then the others because gras tipes are good
Cyndaquil is the best, all I can say... Chikorita is for a challenge because of it many weaknesses and Totodile is neutral because of it's wide movepool but a variety of common types for weaknesses.
