Well, everybodys id in there game is different.
Every game is different, but I can give you the odds.
I got my shiny in 4 tries by soft reseting.
Do you know how to soft reset?
Press L, are, start and select at the same time.
The odds of getting a shiny in the 4th gen games are about 1 in 8,129 and you might not even get it then. And especially if you are trying to get a legendary that is in sight, not a wondering legend.

I've heard of people reseting their game for days before giving up, others got shiny in an hour or so. Luck of the draw. Be patient.
