Question for New Super Mario Bros

HELP!! I have New Super Mario Bros for my DS & when I try to tap the bottom to change levels, it doesnt let me. Am I supposed to be pushing an additional button as well as tapping the level I want to go to? I have passed all the levels but can't replay them because I can't switch to previous worldS?!?
