You have to deafeat the boss in the last castle of world three and six as mini mario to unlock worlds 4 & 7. There is a mini mushroom near the end of both levels. You use a ground pound to deafeat the boss as just jumpijng on him wont work

To unlock world 4 is the same way to unlock world 7. You must beat the bosses of the previous worlds (world 3 and world 6) as mini mario. A good plan is to have the mini mushroom (blue small mushroom) and use it before you kill the enemy. You can't use after the enemy because it doesn't allow you. Ground Pound should work on beating the boss like a normal hit to the enemy.
Once beaten you should go the screen with the sign and than you drop down to a small pathway. When you go through the small pathway, the sign changes from world 5 to world 4 or world 8 to world 7. Apart from world 8, these worlds are a little harder. And I think it was the world 6 boss that was tricky when your mini mario. Good Luck and hope that helps.
