When I got all parts of the star it wouldn't come down.

If it didn't come down then try walking out of the room a few times and see if t drops it, if not then go get another piece of the star from one of your previous ventures through and see if that works. Also try checking your inventory to see if you already picked up the piece, if not then you might have to restart, sorry.
