Okay it's been awhile since I've played my game but, if I'm not mistaken it has something to do with the number of hearts the animal has. As in how much it likes you. You increase this by petting and grooming your animals every day. Sheering sheep and milking the cows also helps. It takes awhile to get enough hearts to win the festival though. I hope this helps.
you need 9 to 10 hearts to win.best if you can have 10 hearts.besides brushing, milking, patting, talking etc to the animals, let them go outside for 5 hours a day to have more hearts.besides, you also save your money cause the chicken and other animals are let grazed.kill two birds with one stone, you see.hope this helps good luck
You can't do anything on the day of the festival, it's something that has to built up over the years in the game. The more hearts the animal has by it's name, the more likely it is to win a festival.(which can be checked by clicking on the notepad icon on the bottom screen , then on the icon of the animal, it will bring you to a screen that lists your animal names and the hearts are below each name) Unfortunately, the game is designed to make it slightly harder than just getting a few hearts, you really have to work at it. I would suggest using every interaction with the animal possible, which include brushing, milking, etc. Good luck
I have 10 hearts on the chicken I entered, and I still got in third place. I think it may have something to do with the mic, but I don't know. Sorry.
