When you get a red shell or blue spiny shell, hold onto until just before the person infront of you is moments away from the finish line and fire it, they will be stopped and you will overtake them.

If someone has a ghost just fire the weapon anyway or you will lose it and if it's a red shell it might be used on you.

Don't wait too long to fire your weapon or they may croos the finish line as they are hit.

When firing a blue shell stay away on the other side of the track or you will fly up or spin and lose your chance to overtake.
