How can I beat the gray shy guy blocking the chest? I keep dying because he's too strong....

Here's a sure proof plan: buy 5 stone caps (150 coins)and keep charging with goombario then attack at the very end (charging stacks) though mine did him 64 damage. One thing to note is that you have to land twice with goombario though you van save beforehand.

Do this because then you will not have to fight him at all. Assuming you have already given the Cookbook to Tayce T, get 1 Cake Mix and 1 Lemon and bring those to her so she will make "Lemon Candy" and take that to the Gray Shy Guy and he will let you have the chest for the candy.
