To be successful in My NBA 2K17 you will need to build your team and improve the stats of your players by playing the following modes. Note: Some modes have energy systems or restrictions on how often you play.

Quick Game Mode

In this mode you bring your starting lineup of five cards and pick from one of four opponents to play against. There are four simulated quarters and you will earn Victory Points each time you win one. If at the end of the fouth quarter you have more Victory Points than your opponent you will win the game and receive more rewards such as Engergy cards which can be used in Season mode.

Season Mode

A season consists of 82 games and involves pitting your team against those of other players. Your team is made up of 15 players and three support cards and your job is to manage the energy levels of your players. Rewards are earned based on your final place in the standings which also includes the playoffs.

Blacktop Challenge

In this fast-pased mode which requires a deck of 25 players you are pitted against nine other players' teams in timed rounds where the objective is to win as many games as possible to earn Victory Points. At the end of five rounds players will get rewards based on how many Victory Points they earned.
