Monster Hunter Now is a Real-world RPG that is free-to-play on mobile devices. Embark on adventures to track down and hunt some of the most formidable monsters from the Monster Hunter universe as they appear in our world. This Massive Guide to All Monsters details the 14 creatures that are currently in Monster Hunter Now. Each species unlocks one by one as you progress through the story, the creatures unlock in the following order:

Great Jagras

Great Jagras

This iguana-like creature is the leader of small Jagras packs. It will not hesitate to attack the monsters that are higher than it in the food chain. Great Jagras's insatiable hunger only quenches by devouring a prey whole.

How to Defeat Great Jagras

The way to defeat this Fanged Wyvern is to stay to their side in order to avoid its moves and hit all three weak points at once. This makes the Great Jagras very easy to knock out or stagger, especially if you’re using a hammer. Great Jagras is a neutral monster and is susceptible to Fire damage.

Kulu-Ya-Ku

Kulu-Ya-Ku

This monster is a Bird Wyvern that has developed forelegs capable of throwing rocks. Kulu-Ya-Ku is an extremely mobile creature with fast feet and feathered arms.

How to Defeat Kulu-Ya-Ku

Kulu-Ya-Ku is a neutral monster that can be easily defeated using a strong water weapon. Alternatively, any other element also does decent additional damage if you don't have a Water weapon to hand. The Kulu-Ya-Ku is incredibly susceptible to Stun and Waterblight so equip weapons with these effects. Blast is also a great option if you have a weapon of this type, as you can deal significant extra damage with it.

Pukei-Pukei

Pukei-Pukei

This is a Winged Wyvern with a large whip-like poisonous tongue which it uses to catch its prey. This monster also releases a poisonous breath.

How to Defeat Pukei-Pukei

The best elemental type to use against Pukei-Pukei is Thunder Weapons where it is highly susceptible to Lightning damage. These weapons are very effective against the head and neck area. If you don't have a Thunder Weapon, the next best alternative is Ice. Pukei-Pukei is also fairly susceptible to Paralysis and Sleep so equip weapons and items that inflict these ailments.

Barroth

Barroth

Barroth is a Brute Wyvern that uses a large crown on its head to smash enemies. This monster rests in pools of mud to resist hot temperatures and will attack anything that disturbs it.

How to Defeat Barroth

This monster is vulnerable to both Fire and Ice damage. Fire weapons are very effective on the head area if you can damage it. Other areas to target are the torso or tail. Ice weapons are also equally as good if you don't have a Fire weapon. The Barroth is susceptible to Poison and Paralysis so equip weapons with these effects. Blast is also a great option if you have a weapon of this type, as you can deal significant extra damage with it.

Great Girros

This monster with a cobra-like appearance can paralyze enemies with the toxins it releases from its large fangs. Great Girros is one of the hardest monsters to defeat due to its elemental neutrality.

How to Defeat Great Girros

Although tough to beat due to its elemental neutrality this monster can be defeated using Water and Ice weapons. The bite attack of Great Girros can inflict a paralyze status ailment, but you can greatly reduce the chances of this by destroying the head part. This can also lower the chances of Great Girros calling more allies to help him during the hunt.

Tobi-Kadachi

Tobi-Kadachi

This monster is a Fanged Wyvern incapable of flying. Tobi-Kadachi enters an electrified state which makes its head and tail dangerous weapons.

How to Defeat Tobi-Kadachi

The Tobi-Kadachi is a thunder type monster that has lightning-based attacks. You can counteract these by eating a meal with elemental resistance on it. The Tobi-Kadachi may be relatively small, but it hits hard so make sure you have plenty of health. Use a ranged or melee Water weapon to beat it down quickly. If you don't have water available, fire and ice work nearly as well.

Paolumu

Paolumu

This monster is a Flying Wyvern that can traverse across distances by exhilarating the air it stores in its body. Paolumu uses its tail as a deadly weapon to destroy anything in its way.

How to Defeat Paolumu

This monster is a flying creature so you will need a strong ranged weapon that deals Fire and Thunder damage. Attack its head as much as possible with any weapon, especially if you're using the Hammer. Destroying its Air Sac severely limits its attacks, and it is Stunned quite easily. When its Air Sac is inflated you need to be careful, its attacks do more damage during this state.

Jyuratodus

Jyuratodus

This monster is a Piscine Wyvern that camouflages itself in muddy swamps and uses mud as a weapon to paralyze enemies temporarily. Jyuratodus mud spits will restrict your movements and slow you down once caught in them.

How to Defeat Jyuratodus

Jyuratodus can be taken down easily with a powerful Lightning weapon. This beast will slither and squirm its way past and over you whenever it can. If you want to avoid as much damage as possible, try and position yourself next to the monster's back fins. This will allow you to attack the tail while remaining mobile.

Anjanath

Anjanath

The Anjanath is an aggressive Brute Wyvern that attacks anything that gets in its way without hesitation. It is able to shoot fire from its mouth like mythical dragons.

How to Defeat Anjanath

Anjanath is weak to Water damage since its main element is Fire. This monster is fairly susceptible to Waterblight so go with a Water weapon. If you don't have a Water Weapon, the next best alternative is Ice. This beast is fairly immune to most other effects.

Rathian

Rathian

Known as 'Queen of the Land', this Flying Wyvern is the female counterpart of Rathalos. This monster poisons and subdues her prey with its powerful tail and strong claws.

How to Defeat Rathian

Rathian is very weak to the dragon element so use Dragon Weapons which are particularly effective on her head and wing area, so aim for these where possible. Rathian is fairly resistant to most ailments but does succumb to Thunderblight easily and it lasts a good amount of time. This therefore makes Thunder a good choice. You should never use fire weapons on this fire-breathing dragon.

Legiana

Legiana

This monster is a Flying Wyvern that is often found over swamps hunting Raphinos. It slows its prey down by breathing cold air on them and then devours them.

How to Defeat Legiana

Legiana resides in cold biomes and is vulnerable to Fire damage. You will need a strong ranged weapon to bring down this winged monster. Use your bow to target its wings which are its most vulnerable part. The movements of the Legiana will start to slow down once its wings are broken or when the poison status effect is applied to it.

Diablos

Diablos

Diablos is a herbivore monster that consumes desert cacti to survive. This monster digs the ground to live underneath and uses its horns to attack any intruders that disturb it.

How to Defeat Diablos

Diablos is a pure Earth monster who is only weak to Ice weapons, so be sure to bring them to capitalize on this weakness. Dragon and Water weapons are also effective. Diablos' weak points are its head, wings, and chest. Hitting its head can stun it and its tail can be cut off.

Rathalos

Rathalos

Known as 'King of the Skies', this Flying Wyvern is the male counterpart of Rathian. This monster has the ability to breathe fire and is deadly with its claws.

How to Defeat Rathalos

Rathalos is a dangerous monster, before fighting this beast you need strong armor with high defense. Rathalos has a lot of fire-based attacks, so having fire resistance is ideal. The best elemental type to use against it is Dragon Weapons, which are particularly effective on its head and wing area, so aim for these where possible. If you do not have a Dragon Weapon, the next best element against him is Thunder. Again, his head and wing area are the most vulnerable to this.

Important Note: If you come across a monster you cannot engage in combat there and then, using a paintball allows you to save that encounter for later.

  • Black Diablos

    Black Diablos

    This monster is a Flying Wyvern, it has already appeared in Monster Hunter Now during the 'Diablos Invasion' event and is a subspecies of Diablos, they are female Diablos in heat. Black Diablos are much more aggressive than their male counterpart. This creature is extremely hostile, launching sweeping attacks with its tail and horns if you enter its territory.

    This desert-dwelling monster debuted during September's 'Diablos Invasion' event, this creature is an event exclusive.

  • Zinogre

    Zinogre

    Zinogre is a Fanged Wyvern. The oversized wolf-like creature is one of the most popular creatures in the Monster Hunter series due to its powerful weapons and armor. Zinogre has highly developed limbs, sharp fangs, and claws. Its forelegs are extremely powerful and can kill prey in one brutal blow.

  • Azure Rathalos

    Azure Rathalos

    This monster is a Flying Wyvern and a subspecies of Rathalos. Unlike regular Rathalos, Azure Rathalos tend to stay in the sky where they bombard enemies with fire blasts and deliver killing blows with lunging claw swipes.

Small Monsters

There are several small monsters in Monster Hunter Now which you can hunt to get various materials that can be used to craft powerful weapons and gear. Listed below are the small monsters you can face and what they drop once you have defeated them.

    Jagras are small monsters that hunt in packs. If their territory is encroached by a large monster, they will assess the situation from a distance, attacking as a group only if they sense they are in danger.

    Shamos dwell in dark places. They tend to challenge hostile foes as a pack.

    Raphinos are wingdrake that always coordinate as part of a group. Larger predators take advantage of this when targeting them as prey.

    Noios are wingdrakes that reacts with a bloodcurdling scream when disturbed. This beast is ravenous by nature and can often be found gathering around pieces of meat.
