Metroid Fusion is another game of the Metroid Series. Samus Aran, the bounty hunter, has been sent to the planet of SR388 for research. While she is there, she is attacked by a violent creature. When she destroys it, a weird looking thing comes out and attacks, but Samus appears unaffected. As Samus is returning to the station, she loses consciousness, and her ship slowly drifts into an asteroid. Her automatic escape pod ejected her before impact. The scientists at the station found that the thing that attacked was a parasite called X. The X had infected her entire nervous system. Samus' Power Suit was surgically removed. The doctors had little hope, until they made a vaccine. They used a Metroid cell, since Metroids were the ones that hunted the X. Samus survived, but her physical appearance was drastically altered. The removed Power Suit was sent to a small research station near SR388. However, Samus heard that a large explosion had occured, and now it is your job to figure out what happened.
As a GBA game, Metroid Fusion is very limited. Like it's predecessors, Metroid Fusion is a side-scroller. The graphics are fairly decent. The effects of certain abilities and weapons are very cool. The scenery is also somewhat real-looking. Samus herself even looks pretty good, at least for the GBA.
Sound is always a key component in any videogame. Metroid Fusion offers a nicely made soundtrack of music. Most of the background music is pleasurable. It is not the annoying type of background music. Also, sound effects are well-made. Shooting and creature sounds are completely developed, to provide for a more realistic sense.
The game itself is good. Metroid Fusion has a few differences compared to other Metroid games. No longer are there purple energy balls; they have been replaced by X parasites. Same goes for missles. Power-ups do not come from the Chozo Statues; Samus can just fight a boss and absorb the large X parasite. Controls are simple and any gamer can play and enjoy this game.
Metroid Fusion has only a couple of places to go. Since you are on the space station the entire time, there are no other worlds to go to. There are basically six sectors, along with the main deck. Each sector serves as a sort of stage, wth each having one to two bosses. However, this game can easily be beaten in less than two hours, although some may quest for 100% to get the best ending picture.
Overall, I have to give Metroid Fusion an eight out of ten. Graphics are decent for the GBA, sound quality is pretty good, the gameplay is great, but I feel that the game lacks length. It is way too easy to beat this game in one day, even for those that don't play too often. Newbies could probably beat this game quickly. It also sucks that you cannot travel to SR388, which would have made the game better and a lot longer in length. If that was the case, this would get a 9 out of 10. Metroid Fusion is a nice diversion, but it probably isn't worth your money.
