Costumes are stored in boxes with a purple screen on the front. They are hidden throughout most chapters, interacting with them unlocks a new skin for one of the five Guardians.

When you bring up the guardians menu to purchase abilities look in the bottom right corner of the screen and it tells you which button does what. Use the control pad or the left stick to select the guardian you want and then if you're playing on the PlayStation press 🔼 and you'll see all the outfits you've collected. Select the outfit you want to swap to and press X to confirm. I would assume that's what you mean by your question but yeah they can be found hidden throughout the levels like the other guy said though to me they look more pink than purple. Maybe it's a cross between the two
