You start the game by spawning on a plot of land which will become your home base, this area will have some resources such as stone, wood, and iron which you need to stock up on so you can begin building a shelter. Your first priority though is Crafting either a Spear, Pickaxe, or Hatchet out of stone and wood so it can be used as a melee weapon if you get attacked by wolves and zombies while Scavenging. There will be food in this area in the form of deer which you will have to sneak up from behind and kill using the weapon you made and berries which can also be used for healing if you get low on health. There will also be an abandoned car in the area which you can loot for the scrap. At this point in the game you do not have to worry about being looted by another player so you can use the car as a storage container if you start to get overloaded with things.

Start of by making your first home small and simple, just make sure you leave enough room for a couple of crates and a stove. Eventually a warning box will appear above your head telling you that you have used all your local berries and deer meat and that you are starting to starve and dehydrate. Once this happens you need to drop anything of value in your storage and head out to the wilderness where you will be given several options. At this point the most important thing is replenishing your health so head towards an easy level (green) forest and stock up on berries. While there collect wood and keep an eye out for loot crates, then when your inventory is full head home. If you are unfortunate enough to encounter a Floater Bloater while Scavenging you need to run, any zombies, wolves and Fast Biters though can be dealt with using your crafted weapon.

Keep going to easy levels (green and yellow) forests and quarries to get the needed supplies to build up your home, don't build out too much though as doing so will make your base more difficult to defend against enemies as floors and walls will need to be upgraded. Your main priority now is setting up a continous supply of food and water at your home, this can be done by making use of Garden Beds to grow things such as carrots and setting up Rain Catchers.

When your food and water situation is stable craft a Basic Backpack and head towards Bunker Alfa. At the front gates of Bunker Alfa you will find a key card on the corpse of a dead guard which will unlock the door. Inside you will find several lockers that are filled with loot that will include two guns and a set of military clothes. Avoid the temptation of using the guns because once they are broken you will not be able to fix them and you will not need them anyway for the easy (green and yellow) levels. Keep returning to the base and salvaging it until it is empty, you will come across a lot of electronic junk which will not be any good to you at the moment so delete it to make space for something that is useful.

Once you reach the point where you have salvaged all the easy (yellow and green) levels and Bunker Alfa you can do as you like...
