Question for The Simpsons: Tapped Out

I'm already on level 6 and have like 200 donuts, but my problem is I never put in my email account to add friends and am afraid I might lose everything I have on it

If you create a log in account it comes up with a message saying (something like) there is already a game in progress...is this your game. You can then link your town to your account and keep everything you already have. I have been playing for months and didn't have an account but wanted to add friends for the Christmas coins so created an account and it just linked it to my town.
