you have to tap the chicken or a button will pop up when you hold the seeds and hover over the chickenGuest answered:
I believe chickens eat hay and seeds. If there was corn, I would guess that they would eat that too.

Chickens do not eat, but you can hold seeds in your hand and the nearest chickens will start following you.
