You can have a maximum of 29 customers in your bakery. If your tables and chairs are arranged efficiently, you can maintain 100 happiness with only 18 tables and chairs. If you don't know an efficient arrangement, just put them in two straight rows with one tile gap between the backs of the chairs. You won't need more than 21 chairs like that. If your customers are eating less than 1,800 servings every hour (43,200 per day), then you are not reaching peak efficiency.

The best food item in the game is jasmine tea. Unlocked at level 12 in the basic drink mixer, every hour it gives 84 xp and 825 servings at 4 coins each. Overnight you can make hot apple cider (1440 servings, 10 coins each, 16 hours). Do not make red velvet cake unless you have over 30 ovens.

An important trick to maximize your coin per hour income is to spread your more expensive food items across multiple countertops. In the case of making jasmine tea and hot apple cider, you want all your jasmine tea to be placed onto 1 countertop and your hot apple cider spread out over as many countertops as you have drink mixers. This way your customers consume the more expensive foods first, and your cheaper foods hold you over until your next batch of expensive food/drinks.

This register glitch is the only bug I am aware of in this game that can be used to your benefit (I consider nothing else listed on this website for Bakery Story as a cheat, but this could be). If you have 1 door to your bakery, you can place objects on 3 sides of your cash register except the side where your avatar stands. The customers will stop in the doorway as if they are at the cash register, and then they will go sit down without ever going to the register. You can place the register at the end of your line of tables and chairs, as far away from the door as you can get, so you can have more chairs closer to the door. Make sure your avatar is connected to their walkway. This does not work with multiple doors..
