How to Unlock Playable Characters

As well as new characters Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity features playable characters from both Breath of the Wild and past Legend of Zelda games. However, these characters will not be available from the start of the game and will need to be unlocked by either playing through the main campaign or by completing a number of special challenges. Each of the playable characters has unique abilities that you will find helpful as you progress through the game. Unlocking Great Fairies, Monk Maz Koshia, Terrako and Ganon is essential in order to overcome the more difficult challengers and tougher enemies you will encounter.

Unlocked from the start of a new game.

Zelda:

Complete the Road to the Ancient Lab Chapter 1 mission.

Impa:

Complete The Battle of Hyrule Field Chapter 1 mission.

Revali:

Complete the Revali, the Rito Warrior Chapter 2 mission.

Mipha:

Complete the Mipha, the Zora Princess Chapter 2 mission.

Daruk:

Complete the Daruk, the Goron Hero Chapter 2 mission.

Urbosa:

Complete the Urbosa, the Gerudo Chief Chapter 2 mission.

Hestu:

Complete the Freeing Korok Forest Chapter 3 mission.

Yunobo:

Complete the Water and Fire Chapter 5 mission.

Riju:

Complete the Air and Lightning Chapter 5 mission.

Sidon:

Complete the Water and Fire Chapter 5 mission.

Teba:

Complete the Air and Lightning Chapter 5 mission.

Master Kogha:

Complete the Relentless as a Waterfall Chapter 6 mission.

King Rhoam:

Complete the All Hyrule United Chapter 7 mission.

Great Fairies:

Complete all four Fairy Fountain challenges in Chapter 4. These challenges can be acessed by completing the Offering Help on the Roadquest, as part of the Trial of the Great Fairies quest.

Monk Maz Koshia:

Complete the Trial of the Ancients challenge in Chapter 4. This challenge can be accessed after completing The Trial of Monsters, The Trial of Stones, and The Trial of the Mighty Foe.

Terrako:

Complete the main campaign and then complete the Terrako's Return mission. This will also unlock the secret ending.

Ganon:

Complete the main campaign, unlock Terrako, and then complete challenges to level up to unlock the Level 71-80 challenges. You then need to complete the Versus Calamity Ganon challenge.
