The closest thing to it is a shield roll. The differences are, wavedashes are faster, you stay looking the same direction in wavedashes, and wavedashes can be shorter or longer than shield rolls. The easiest way to do one is: pick a player(Luigia perferably, he is the best and easiest). Get on a flat part of a course, where you wont hit a wall, like Final Destination. Hold down and your player will duck. While hes ducking, move it from down to diagnol down. If your player is walking, try again. Then, quickly press X then R. To do it in real play, because you probably wont have time to do it that way in gameplay, jump and immediatly press sideways-down+R. Peace.
To do a Wavedash pres R and < or > or L and > or <. It's a dodge.
