Not any permanent characters, but you can get characters like Giga Bowser, Master Hand, Crazy Hand, or even the Sandbag... They disappear once you turn the GameCube off, forcing you to use the Action Replay to get them back again.

Here is a list of characters you can get and what they can do:
Giga Bowser: same as regular Bowser but bigger.
Dark Link: exactly the same as Link but just totally black.
Male Wireframe: has a few A moves.
Female Wireframe: same as Male.
Popo (without Nana): just Popo without Nana.
Sandbag: can only walk around but the agme always freezes after four seconds of using him.
Master Hand: can use all the moves he uses, just don't use him on any of the Lylat System stages. (Player 3 only)
Crazy Hand: same as Master Hand but has some different moves.(PLayer 4 only).
Note that the game MAY freeze when playing as any of these characters (exept Dark Link) and when the match is over the game will freeze (exept with Dark Link, he turns into regular Link). They can only be used on VS mode.
