There are 48 pokemon in total, each one to purify.

There are a total of 52 pokemon. There are only 48 shadow Pokemon in the game though. The Pokemon that aren't shadow are Umbreon, Espeon, Plusle, and Ho-oh.

52 you can obtain. 48 Shadow Pokemon, and 4 already pure ones. Umbreon, Espeon, Plusle, and Ho-oh are the 'already pure' 4.
