i think i sequence jumped

I was playing the game when I found a way into the room flarghraa was in.i think that may have been the sequence jump,but then I went all the way through magmoor caverns to phandrana drifts and beat those wolf-looking things with shells on their backs.now it says something about seismic activity ans to get into the room it shows I need the wave or plasma beam.what did I do to my game?is this supposed to happen?
