There has been alot of controversy over this, but, unfortunately, the only pets that you can get, (according to a few guides I've read) are your dog, and one of Romana's cats. Those are the only pets I know that you can get. All of the other ones are just myths.

Actually, I've heard if you befriend Flora, you get that little rat looking thing at the digsite. And then, befriend Vest and/or Marlin, get the raccoon. Befriend the yeti looking guy by giving him fish.

I'm pretty sure that YOU CAN get the pets
Befriend either vesta or marlin to get the raccoon
I read somewhere that you have to get a veggie juice and a weird hoe from vesta first, and that it's only in year one WHICH IS A LIE
Befriend cody or nina I forget which one,
Prolly cody because nina dies lol,
To get the turtle.
Befriend darryl the science guy and mukumuku to get the lizard
Tartan is something to do with tarakrararhaurahra or whatever his name is. The guy ith the huge eyebrows that lives on your farm.
Befriend EVERYONE IN TOWN and clean the spring to get the owl.
Im pretty sure you can't get mukumuku as a pet, he's like a person
He is at the spring in the winter though.
