I'm on world 8 and past the first bit with the ship and stuff but i've now got to a bit where that says level 1. The screen is dark except a circle of light around mario. I have spent days on this level trying to get past the big black cannon things that fire bullets but can't seem to do it please can someone put me out my misery!!!

When you run, go in between the two poles of black guns. Jump up and get the star. Then jump out of the guns. Run like a banshee. That should help you.
