I think a water-type, as they learn bubble soon, wich can really help with incoming enemies...

Mudkip. He is a water type so he learns bubble and is very strong!

I'd say either Pikachu, Mudkip, or Torchic. Torchic evolves into a Fire/Fighting type Pokemon family, and fighting Pokemon can be very heplful being super-effective against five types (Normal, Rock, Ice, Steel, and Dark). Pikachu is okay, I guess. It's only weakness is Ground types. I hear it's not that great, besides, if you want an Electric type really bad, remember you get a Magnemite partner very early in the game. Mudkip, I think is the best. Like Torchic, Mudkip evolves into another dual type Pokemon. Mudkip's evos are Water/Ground types, and again, Ground is the other type that is super-effective on five types (Rock, Poison, Steel, Fire and Electric) Plus, Mudkip as Marshtomp and Swampert are only weak to Grass type moves.
