Hi, I'm stuck at the part where the pirahna plant eats the bean fruit, and everything I've read has said that it only takes a few hits of luigi's thunderhand, but mine only does 4 damage points at a time, and I can't seem to last long enough to kill him. Is there a reason why I can't do 40 damage at a time, like some people have been able to do?

Try equipping Luigi with gear that increases his POW. When he levels up, select his POW as the stat for extra increase. You might also want to train somewhere to gain a few extra levels before facing the boss.
Additionally, how much damage each Brother's Hand Power does is dependant on the Piranha Plant's colour. If it's red, use Luigi's Thunder Hand, and if it's blue, use Mario Fire Hand. It might be the other way round though.
Rise luigis pow to increase the damage.You should also buy the spiny badge A which doubles the damage on spiny creatures instead of normal and pirahna bean is a spiny creature
