Switch Characters to Regenerate ATB

Although you should stick with one character the majority of the time in Final Fantasy VII Remake it is also important that you don't neglect the other members of your party and continually switch to them from time to time. The reason why you should take the time to use the other characters is because a character regenerates ATB (Active Time Battle) a lot quicker when you are taking direct control of them. This means you will be able to hop between characters of your party and have them all using spells which will often make winning battles easier and faster.

Complete the Side Quests

When you reach Chapter 3 you will be able to undertake the side quests for the residents of Midgar who want to enlist your help for a variety of different reasons. Take advantage of these side quests whenever they become available in-between major plot points as they reward you with gear and money and give you the opportunity to build your characters levels while fighting enemies which is something you will not be able to do once you enter the dungeon areas. Side quests are not only worthwhile doing for the rewards they offer, they can also affect some main story elements further down the line, so try to complete as many of them as possible.

Master Your Abilities

Although you will be able to get through the early game by just mashing the 'attack' button with your sword it is important that you use the game's early encounters to learn how your different combat abilities work. These include how to stagger foes, target multiple enemies at once, and clear the distance between you and an opponent. The more you use an ability the quicker you will be able to master it, and you can still use it even after you equip a different weapon.

Check Vending Machines

As you journey throughout Midgar in Final Fantasy VII you will come across vending machines which sell all kinds of useful items. Even if you are well stocked up with healing potions, Ether, and curative potions, it is always worthwhile stopping and seeing what is on offer as vending machines often have 'specials' that enable you to stock up on high-value items like mega-potions and phoenix downs for just 100 gil apiece.

Vending machines are usually found next to benches just before a boss fight, so you also get the opportunity to completely recover your HP and MP before the battle. You will also find that most dungeons have at least one vending machine located somewhere along the way.

Look for Visual Clues in Battle

You will quickly find that simply attacking enemies all out is usually an inefficient way to tackle the more dangerous foes in Final Fantasy VII Remake. Most mini-bosses and bosses will have weak spots or parts that you can target and focus your attack on to defeat them easier so before engaging them you should take the time to use the Assess Materia to analyze them to discover where the weakness is you can exploit. Also pay attention to the changing colors of enemies as this indicates whether they are weak to a certain elemental magic or if they have become immune to physical attacks. Make sure the instant you determine your foes status you change your attack accordingly.

Grind Additional XP for Boss Fights

Although generally there is no need to level-grind in Final Fantasy VII Remake, it is still recommended in order to avoid having problems defeating bosses which can at times be troublesome that you take the time to grind a level or two whenever you come across an area with spawning enemies, particularly if the enemies give a decent amount of XP. Taking that extra strength into battle against a boss can sometimes be the difference between victory and defeat.

Use Different Weapons

Make sure as you progress in your adventure you regularly change up the weapons of each character whenever you stumble upon a weapon shop or gain a new weapon. The reason why it is important that you do this is because each new weapon you get in Final Fantasy VII Remake will feature a unique ability for use in combat and the more you use the weapon's ability the higher your proficiency in the skill will become. Once the character reaches 100% proficiency the ability the skill can then be universally used on every weapon for that character. By getting 100% proficiency in as many weapons as possible will enable you to add to the move-set of each party member and make them more versatile in combat.

Use Assess Materia

When you reach Chapter 3 of Final Fantasy VII Remake you will meet a young researcher called Chadley who will ask you to gather battle intel with the yellow Command Materia he gives you. Equip this item to one of your party members as soon as you get, ideally on the character you use the most. Then make sure whenever you encounter an enemy you use the Assess Materia in the 'Combat' menu to assess your foe. It will give you information about their strengths and weaknesses as well as their fighting habits and behavior.

In addition to tactical information the Assess Materia will also help you to unlock more Materia, which Chadley can then use the intel to develop new Materia for you to buy and use from his shop. As you progress through the game continually look at the battle intel requirements in your menu to see how you can continue to unlock more powerful Materia.

Return to Quest Givers for Hints

Although most of the side-quests in Fantasy VII Remake are self-explanatory there will be some where it is not immediately obvious. If you ever find yourself unsure as to where you should be going on the map you can return to the quest giver who will give you a hint on the location of your goal. There will be some side quests that have multiple items to collect and talking to the quest giver multiple times will provide clues for each of their locations. Another way to determine where you should be going if you get stuck is to check the quest line in the side quest menu.

Frequently Upgrade Your Weapons

Final Fantasy XII Remake features a new weapon upgrade progression system that allows you to enhance your skills and fine-tune the fighting style of each character by using the SP (Skill Points) you earn when you level up to upgrade weapons.

Make sure that you frequently visit the 'Weapons and Equipment' menu in order to check your characters weapons to see if you have a SP to spend on them. Each of the weapons your characters can use will have different strengths and fighting styles, and it is essential that you keep them upgraded whenever you have the opportunity to ensure you are as effective as possible in battle with them.
