Fable II, the long awaited sequel to Peter Molyneux and Lionhead's bestseller to the original Xbox's Fable/Fable: The Lost Chapters. The game is similar, and yet different in many ways. The contrasts are for the better, and you won't be disapointed. After four long years, here is Fable II.
Graphics have improved from the first installment. With a variety of different colors, the world of Albion is a beautiful place. Detailed graphics are everywhere. The only beef I have is the repeated character models, but then again, it's an RPG, and in a huge world like Albion, you can't fit much more in it.
Sound is decent. A different score for many different areas and wonderous voice work. Unfortunately, you'll be hearing the same voices, and same lines again and again. Fortunately, there is no Guildmaster, and no "You're health is low" If you hadn't played the first one, move along, if you had. I hope you got a laugh out of that.
Fable II is definitely a killer RPG, and the greatest one I've seen on the 360. The game is set 500 years after the first game, so it's set in 1600-1800s. So powdered wigs are in, and guns are the dominate range weapon. Many of the cities have been updated greatly, and you won't even recognize them. Other towns, such as Oakvale, the hometown of the Hero from the first installment, no longer exist (I'd rather not give to great of Spoilers) Other cities, such as the lawless Bloodstone, were seeded from previous areas. (Twinblade's Bandit camp) Some characters even reappear, either in the flesh (still no spoilers) or just mentioned. The game's easy controls and combat that, as Molyneux said "a five year old could easily pick up" is quite a good feature. The vast and open story line which you basically control is also expanded. If you are an good Hero, Albion will thrive. If you are an evil Hero, Albion will suffer. There are many Pub Games, and jobs, which you do make money from, but are necessarily aren't fun. Man's best friend, your dog, is also a nice feature in different ways. He will sniff out will hidden treasures, even while you are being ambushed by a score of Bandits. Otherwise, he's quite useless in combat, except when you knock you're enemies off their feet, he'll ripe their throats out.A new Co-op feature is also added. Gameplay is the Crown Gem this game, and makes it great
If you had played the first one, you'll know where I'm coming from. Most people will have already planed on going through the game twice, one evil, and good. To get a full 1000 gamescore, you'll need to go through three times. Each picking a different ending. I would recomend it, due to being able to pick your Gender at the begining, and end of the game. (you'll see) You'll also be hunting down Silver Keys and those pesky and insulting Gargolyes. As achievements go, Fable has one of the best lists I have ever seen. 400/1000 will be obtained from completing the game in one go. 50 more will be obtained for completing the game two more times, both picking a different ending. The other 550 are nice, easy and difficult at the same time. Getting 1000 in this game is very obtainable, if there is an achievement you just can't get, you can get into your friend's world, see him meet the requirements and, you'll here that lovely sound.
Overall Fable Deux is an amazing game. Definitely an award winner. Game of the year, maybe, RPG of the year, most likely. If you have a 360, and need a good game to play before the Holiday rush is in, Fable two is that game. Even if you're not fan of the RPG genre, this is still a must playthrough.
