Tutorials

Avoid the temptation to skip the Tutorials, this multifacetated game has a large array of Controls and taking the time to do the Tutorials will give you a basic grounding in this multifaceted game.

Fighter Selection

You will have more of a chance of winning your match if you have selected one of the pound-for-pound greats as your fighter. These fighters include Jon Jones, Cain Velasquez, Anthony Pettis and Jose Aldo.

Fighter Strengths

You will imporve your chances of winning if you know beforehand what your chosen fighters strengths are and how to utilise them.

Energy

Make sure you monitor your energy bar because once it becomes depleted your offense will become practically powerless and you will be more vulnerable to your opponents strikes. The best strategy at the start of a bout is to block and sidestep until you have a feel for your opponent.

Leg Kicks

Don't neglect leg kicks as these can have a devestating effect in the Octagon. A consistant barrage of well-placed leg kicks will not only inflict damage and slow your opponent down they will also limit their offensive and defensive wrestling.

Body Shots

Try to avoid slugfests and instead pick your shots carefully. If your opponent has guarded their head look to target their body as landing a well-placed shot there can be as effective as going to the head.

Submissions

If you are patient and block your opponents predictable attempts of escaping when you have secured a takedown you will quickly drain their stamina and make the task of making them tap easier.

Footwork

Having good footwork is important as it will enable you to evade an attack by stepping out of the way and lauching a counter-attack. A well timed counter-strike while your opponent is throwing a strike is one of the most damaging offensive moves in the game as it will also quickly burn their energy.

Wrestling

Although it may not be as pretty as punching and kicking you will find that wrestling is highly effective when you take an opponent down and utilise it. Mixing up strikes and takedowns is a good way to keep your opponent guessing.

Plum Clinch

Try to force your opponents into the Plumb Clinch so you can easily dominate them. The Plumb Clinch is when you control the back of your opponents head with both of your hands and then unload powerful knee strikes to their face. What makes this technique so effective is that it is not easy for your opponent to defend against. Anderson Silver frequently uses this move to devestating effect in the middleweight division.
