Introduction

Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII is the prequel to Final Fantasy VII for PS1 and PC. It is completely about the story of Zack Fair, a SOLDIER member. There was very little info given on him in Final Fantasy VII so Square Enix created this game to help clear up the past events leading to Cloud in Midgar. The game introduces new characters: Angeal and Genesis, two SOLDIER 1st classes involved with a mysterious experiment. Some familiar faces also return, such as Cloud, Aerith, Sephiroth, and Tseng. The story revolves around Zack and his missions with the Shinra Company.

Graphics

The graphics of CC:FFVII are some of the best out of all PSP games. Detailed characters and environments provide for a realistic experience that only a Final Fantasy game could provide. Stunning cinematics are always a plus, and CC:FFVII has quite a few. As in most Final Fantasy games, there are three types of graphics: normal, decent, and amazing. Normal graphics are graphics during battle and field, which are still very good. Decent graphics are the ones used in minor dialogue and scenes. The ones in CC:FFVII are very realistic. Finally, there are the amazing graphics, reserved for "good graphics scenes". The visuals of the game are simply wondrous.

Sound

Crisis Core feastures some amazing soundtrack music. Voice-overs are also present, which always provides more connection with characters. The battle music is intense with nice guitar sounds. Final Fantasy games are great examples of games with excellently assembled music and sounds. Some music should be quite familiar to gamers that have played FFVII, which provides a sort of nostalgia for some players. The game even has it's own soundtrack available on CD and in MP3 format, which just shows how great of music this game has.

Gameplay

Unlike most Final Fantasy games, CC:FFVII has no party system. The only playable character is Zack. While some may say that this is a disadvantage, it actually is quite the opposite. Having only one character makes the game a lot easier to play. Battling has a different system. When a battle occurs, "Combat Mode" initiates. You then can continuously attack using various commands. On the field, controls are very basic and simplistic. Shopping is easy, since all shops are accessible from the menu. Thus, playing is very fun and easy.

Lastability

Crisis Core does not have a long story. It takes place during the past of FFVII so the game cannot last too long. This is unfortunate, since Crisis Core is a great game, perhaps the best on the PSP. The game moves rather fast, but there is the option to restart the game with most items and the same stats. You also have the option of Hard Mode, which allows for a tougher challenge for veteran players. There are also hundreds of side missions to do, adding more hours to total play time. Thesse extras help increase this score to 8 out of ten.

Overall

I actually give this game a 9.5 overall, but 9 is as close as I can get on this rating scale. With all of it's aspects: stunning visuals, amaxing music and SFX, a gripping storyline, and a bunch of extras, this game has the whole package of a great game, a game that every PSP owner should buy, especially any that have played Final Fantasy VII.

Final Score: 90%
