Introduction

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare had a reasonable amount to live up to after a pretty successful Call of Duty 3, but this installment took a step into modern times, away from World War II, and into the modern Iraqi war on terrorism.

The modern, deadly weapons, the lethal disasterous grenades, and the enthralling combat will have you sitting on your seats with a controller in your hands for weeks to come.

Ifinity Ward have developed this game to put Military Based First Person Shooters into a new era, setting a new standard; The Gold Standard, in which Call of Duty 5 and new Tom Clancy games will have to klive up to. .

You will face a mixture of battle types, being close quarters combat, combat from the air, maulling enemies like ants, and combat where you tactically stand back, and pick off enemies one by one with the deadly accurate sniper rifles, as you hold your breathe for a moment.

This installment will have you begging for more, and will give you plent to do until the 5th installment; Call of Duty; World at War, which will most definately have a world of expectation upon it's shoulders, thanks to the success of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare..

Graphics

The graphics on this game are intense; like looking out of your window to the garden below. Almost no way to actually critisize any aspect of it. The background, and surrounding are great, so much attention to deatil, even in the landscape beyong the game map, you'll see house after house with immense detail etc. The people/soldiers on this game look like you're meeting them in person, their facial expressions tell a story, their mouths move to the speech, and each person has a keen attention to detail, really adding to the experience. Items, and vehicles like tanks, and the guns you're wielding look extraordinary, I forbid you to find any game quite like this graphics wise.

You can tell with lighting, it's a dark night, and you'll struggle to see properly, you're in a tunnel, so it'll be shadowed, and gloomy, as well as standing in front of a cars healights, and you'll struggle to see. The graphics when you're flashbanged is wizard, stunned, as you regain momentum. You have high tech night vision goggles to help you when the going gets...welll...dark, as you stare down the laser beam and silently snip your enemies dead. The way you enemies fall to the ground after blood spurting from their chest as you gun them down, clips falling from the turret gun, you watch the expressions of pain on the enemy faces, arms flailing helplessly, falling to a heap on the ground; it's that intense.

Honestly, it is difficult to even compare the graphics for this game, to any previous Call of Duty installment, and even most Next Gen Console games on the market at the moment; coming from not even a hardcore Call of Duty fan, it means something.

Sound

The sounds are surreal, by that, I mean very, very, very real. As real as you typing on your keyboard right now. Not that I know from personal experience, but it just sounds like you're there on the battlefield yourself, fighting, bracing yourself for the explosion of that grenade, pulling the trigger on your Carbine Rifle, the sound is pretty much spot on.

The sounds from the background/lanscape/surroundings going on, as you can hear them, the same time as watching the AlQued show, and luistening to your buddys chat in the corner of the room, as well as friendlys shooting those terrorists on the other side of the wall. Destinctly good, are these sounds, yes.

Listening to the firing of your gun, every gun has their own unique sound upon the trigger being pulled, from the Sniper, to the Rocket Launcher type, each being incredibly accurate, and realistic. The explosions of cars, flashbangs and grenades, each specific to their own, each wanting you to throw another, blow up another.

You can hear scream of the enemy, as you shoot them, crawling, thriving in pain, screams in a language unfamiliar, so you use your last clip, making that familar 'ding' sound, as the bullet burries into the helpless, enemies skull. You can hear the head thudding against the floor, as more enemies close in, patting footsteps. The sound is extraordinary, and would more than luikely be an insult to compare it with previous Call of Duty games.

Gameplay

The gameplay, (you're probably getting bored of this phrase by now) is also, bloody excellent, the story, campaign, career mode just blew me away, many different levels, and different thing to experience. Shooting your way through the Iraqi war, different kind of shooting experiences, with a whole range of weapons, from anti aircraft, sniper rifles, automatic weapons, knives, and even a range of weapons you can use from helicopters, and damage causing grenades, it's a blast. (lol, sorry, I had to).

The story mode on this installment is differenmt to the previous, as you play through one same storyline line throughout, with two different characters. Playing as soldiers from the U.S, and the UK (British S.A.S, US Marines), you aim to rescue friends from assassination, take out, and complete your objectives, with a wide range of tactical variations that you can apply.

You play in well thought out map situations, with refined, really well thought out AI, so you're going to have to be smart, and intelligent. You're simply not going to be able to run through taking out multiple enemies like you're watching the next KillBill volume, take your time. At times, there can be so many enemies, sometimes to the extent where you become so frustrated, you believe there are unlimited amount of enemies, so cover is essential. They are clever, they flank, they use a wide range of weapons, and they set the dogs on you, quite literally. You have extremely short minigames with the attacking hounds, their aim to to get a mouthful of your throat, your's is to break theirs in half. A game of reaction, and timing.

Although there are minor faults, for example, you can't communicate with your team maates, like you can in Rainbow 6, for example, so team tactics becomes a bit of an issue, you have to listen to what they are saying, or go loan wolf, I'm afraid, either way, good fun.

You also have 30 pieces of enemy intel to collect throughout the game, hidden in different levels, disguised as laptops, basically your hidden packages of GTA, or your Eggs from Spyro; always adding that extra flare needed to make it something more worthwhile.

And then we come to online, 55 ranks to prgres through, unlocking weapons, and gadgets and accessories for them, as you test your skills aghainst the best in the world, employinmg your tactics, and skills, usuing weapons of your preference, and employing your very own tactics, as well as unlocking challenges and improving your prestige, it also has opne of the best online gameplays, as well as campaign, so what are you waiting for?

Lastability

Most claim for this to have the best lastability around, but truth be told, I got bored after a month or so, comparing it to other games, that I've played for the best part of a year, so I can hardly give it more than an 8, from own personal experience, but many, (many) are bound to disagree.

Campaign will take you a while to complete, a couple of days possibly, especially on Veteran difficulty, and if you want to try and wiggle your way through the mazy buildings while you expendable crew outside battle the opposing sildiers, to find the enemy intel, for you achievement and cheats, it'll add those precious extra hours ontotop.

Then you also have the old online gameplay, 55 ranks to progress through;
1. Private First Class
2. Private I
3. Private II
4. Lance Corporal
5. Lance Corporal I
6. Lance Corporal II
7. Corporal
8. Corporal I
9. Corporal II
10. Sergeant
11. Sergeant I
12. Sergeant II
13. Staff Sergeant
14. Staff Sergeant I
15. Staff Sergeant II
16. Gunnery Sergeant
17. Gunnery Sergeant I
18. Gunnery Sergeant II
19. Master Sergeant
20. Master Sergeant I
21. Master Sergeant II
22. Master Gunnery Sergeant
23. Master Gunnery Sergeant I
24. Master Gunnery Sergeant II
25. 2nd Lieutenant
26. 2nd Lieutenant I
27. 2nd Lieutenant II
28. 1st Lieutenant
29. 1st Lieutenant I
30. 1st Lieutenant II
31. Captain
32. Captain I
33. Captain II
34. Major
35. Major I
36. Major II
37. Lieutenant Colonel
38. Lieutenant Colonel I
39. Lieutenant Colonel II
40. Colonel
41. Colonel I
42. Colonel II
43. Brigadier General
44. Brigadier General I
45. Brigadier General II
46. Major General
47. Major General I
48. Major General II
49. Lieutenant General
50. Lieutenant General I
51. Lieutenant General II
52. General
53. General I
54. General II
55. Commander

Each rank requiring more and more EXP points to get to, as you can see, this is going to take a while. You also get to restart your rank, back to the beggining, earninjg a badge for everytime you obtain that 55th rank of commander, so therefore, basically if you don't get bored of it, it'll hardly ever end.

Overall

This game easily break the 9 mark, and will go down as one of, if not the best First Person shooter of all time, certainly more than a renatl. If you could borrow this from your mate for 2 month, then we have a winner. But if not, I guess you're going to have to buy it. Call of Duty's best yet campaign, best yet onliune/multiplayer , simply, the best yet.

You wot?!
