Last Updated: by Dennis

Bloodstained Ritual of the Night is an exploration-focused, side-scroller action RPG set in England around the late 1700's. You play the role of a Shardbinder named Miriam who has the ability to absorb shards from slain demons in order to utilize their demonic powers. However, the more shards Miriam ingests, the closer she gets to becoming a demon herself. Miriam must battle her way through a huge demonic castle as she attempts to stop hell from being unleashed on the world. Check out our Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night cheats and tips to find out how you can get through the game easier.

Cheats, Tips and Strategy

Below is a collection of hints and tips that will help you to progress in the game. These include completing Side Quests and upgrading your shards. As well as these hints and tips we also have a mini-guide here which goes into more details on some of the tips we have below:

Complete Side Quests

There are several NPCs in Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night which if you talk to will give side quests that will allow you to earn various useful items when you complete them. Check out our Quest Guide to find out more about them.

Eating Stat Bonuses

Miriam will recieve permanent stat bonuses the first time she eats a food item so make sure you routinely check to see if you have any food she hasn't eaten yet. If there is a knife and fork icon next to the food it indicates Miriam has eaten the food already and recieved the bonuses and can't get any more. Regularly check Johanne's Alchemy Workshop to see if he has ingredients to make more food. Ingredients can also be purchased from Dominique once you have set up your home base in Arvantville. Addional food items can be obtained by giving seeds to Harry the farmer who you will find just outside Arvantville to the left.

Upgrade your Shards

The shards you collect can be upgraded using items, this is usually not a big investment which makes it worth the effort as doing so will increase how many types of objects that you can conjure. You will be able to upgrade your shards by talking to Johannes in Arvantville. He will be to the left side of the save point in the town. You just need to have the required materials or ingredients with you otherwise you will not be able to upgrade your shards. Check out our Shard Location Guide to find out more about them.

Blue Chests

You will discover that many of the areas in Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night have chests. The blue ones you come across are unique as they replenish themselves after a certain amount of time has passed which makes them great harvest points. These chests contain crafting ingredients which you will find useful so open them as often as you can.

Pay Attention to the Music

One way you can avoid boss battles is by paying attention to the background music. If you enter a new area and this music suddenly cuts off the chances are high that you are about to trigger a boss fight. It is advised that if this happens that you turn around immediately and look for a save room and also see if there is a fast travel point nearby which you can use if you find you need to make a hasty escape if things don't go your way.

Save Often

Remember that there are no checkpoints in Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night. If you die the game wistarts you off from the last time you saved so it is important that you remember to save the game often to avoid unknowingly wanderign into a boss room with no healing items and the last time you saved was quite a while back.

Unlock New Game+

You will be able to access New Game+ in Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night from the 'main' menu once you have beaten the game. In New Game+ you will be able to play the game as Miriam with most of the items that you earned from your earlier playthrough. Check out our How to Unlock New Game+ guide to find out more about about this feature.
