How to Defeat Cazador in Baldur's Gate 3

Cazador Szarr is a Lord Vampire in Baldur's Gate 3, he is the looming danger Astarion warns you about. The opportunity will arise for you to help Astarion challenge his tormentor and prevent a catastrophic blood ritual involving seven thousand sacrifices. This How to Defeat Cazador in Baldur's Gate 3 guide will help you against Astarion's cruel and ambitious vampiric master.

Cazador Szarr the Vampire Lord

Cazador Szarr became a Vampire Lord in the year 1276, claiming the position of master vampire of Baldur's Gate from Vellioth the Martine. Now the Vampire Lord's bid for god-like power poses a dire threat to Baldur's Gate that cannot be ignored. Cazador Szarr is a powerful spellcaster and will assault you with elemental damage.

Cazador Szarr can cast spells such as Call Lightning and use Misty Escape - which will render him almost intangible and give him a great deal of temporary Hit Points. To make matters worse you will need to face him during a ritual that empowers him beyond his normal limits. In order to overcome this boss who has a 200+ HP health pool that rivals the Apostle of Myrkul from Act 2 your party will need to be properly prepared if they hope to survive until dawn.

Battle Preparations

Cazador Szarr is especially dangerous during his ritual, dealing extra necrotic damage for every one of his spawn channeling power. This makes it essential to have necrotic resistance elixirs. If you cannot cover your entire party, or if you have someone who already resists necrotic damage, Elixirs of Guileful Movement are a suitable alternative.

Cazador Szarr has Fallen Gur Hunters that can paralyze your party with their attacks, bats to swarm you, and Predator Werewolves that will deal extra damage at every opportunity. To effectively clear out these creatures the Vampire Lord commands, it's important to prepare high damage Area of Effect (AoE) spells.

However, spells that avoid damaging allies should be given higher priority. You should also consider brewing some Potions of Speed or having a caster ready with a Haste spell to increase your allies' speed. Lastly, be sure to prepare the Daylight spell as it can be a powerful tool against vampires who are susceptible to sunlight.

How To Stop The Ritual

When you engage in combat with Cazador Szarr the ritual of the Vampire Ascendant will be taking place. You can see all seven of the Vampire Spawn channeling their power into runes on the ground.

Cazador Szarr's status will reflect how many runes he is drawing power from at any given moment. If the Vampire Lord manages to draw power from all seven runes three times, he will transform into the dreaded Vampire Ascendant, which means you have lost the battle. However, if you can prevent Cazador Szarr from completing the ritual, your victory is assured.

You can stop Cazador Szarr from gaining power two ways. First though, you need to remove Astarion from the ritual circle. Astorion is the spawn that is positioned the farthest away. Grant the Haste ability to your fastest party member and have them rush over to pull Astarion out of the circle. For the other Vampire Spawn you can either kill them and remove them from the ritual or have one of your party stand on the magic rune to intercept the power.

How To Defeat Cazador

How to Defeat Cazador in Baldur's Gate 3

Cazador Szarr is an undead creature which means that any specialized tools you have to slay undead will work on him. However, it's unlikely that a Cleric using Turn Undead will affect him, but it can be useful against his creatures. An effective strategy is to use the spell to isolate the Vampire Lord in order to deal with him separately.

Cazador Szarr will usually enter his mist form at the end of his turns which will enable him to gain damage resistance and 70 temporary hit points. You can counter this with the Daylight spell, which will force him out of his mist form and deal 20 radiant damage at the start of every turn.

To make the most out of the Daylight spell, select a melee party member and enchant them with it. This way, they can stay close to Cazador and the spell will move with them as they chase him. This will prevent Cazador from escaping the spell's effects as he would with a stationary spell.

To prevent Cazador Szarr from gaining more power, it is crucial to keep ranged party members on the runes. Using summons will let you occupy more runes at once. The Vampire Lord doesn't have much health to withstand an onslaught of attacks without his mist form, but he will try to keep his distance.

Cazador Szarr can now be thrown from the arena without any hindrance. If you manage to corner him near an edge you can use Telekinesis and Repelling Blast to blast the Vampire Lord off the edge to end the boss fight instantly. When he falls, he will be transported back to his coffin at 0 hp, and you will still receive all the loot.
