Introduction

In Assassins Creed you play as an assassin in the 12th century AD. You play as Altair, a master assassin, and you fail your first mission in the game. You then have to start from the bottom of the ranks and prove yourself in order to regain your higher status. To do this you are set the task of assassinating nine kings. After each assassination you gain new abilities and get rewarded with new weapons. This is a free roaming game and it is definately a true next generation game.

Graphics

Whatever you say about the game you cannot question the graphics. Altair is incredibly lifelike and moves extremely fluently. Climbing up buildings is smooth and when you are jumping from rooftop to rooftop it feels very natural. The cities are huge and you can go anywhere and climb any building. The crowds are also brilliant. They react to the way you behave so if you start jumping from buildings they will look at you and will run away if you bump into them. Each person is different. Some will fight back if you hit them and others will run away. The assassinations themselves are excellently done and it never gets boring. The first time you climb to the highest building and look down you will be absolutely stunned at the graphics. The only thing that they should have done different is weather. Rain, wind and nightime would make the game even better and hopefully that will come in the next installment.

Sound

The voice acting is done very well. The crowds shout out at you if you do something which is not very sociable. When you are running from guards it is incredibly intense and very realistic. Each character in the game as a unique voice and when you go to different cities you do not feel like you are simply in a slightly modified version of the city you have just come from.

Gameplay

The gameplay is brilliant. The fighting is very easy to do and once you get the hang of it you can take out multiple guards. However the guards attack one by one which makes it easy and never try and bundle you. The concept of stealth is also very good. You have to make allies with the Scholars so that you can sneak into cities and if someone notices you then you have to break the line of sight by running up buildings and then doing a "Leap of faith" which is jumping from a huge height into a pile of hay. The throwing knives are great fun and the assassinations are also very realistic. You also choose how it works. You can sneak up on your target or just fight your way through. The game is also free roaming. If you want you can just travel around the city and explore. You can practice running and kill guards on the roofs. When travelling from city to city you ride by horse, it is all one giant level. The loading is also not too bad which is important as it doesn't slow the game down.

Lastability

The game does last a long time because it is free roaming. As well as this there are flags to collect, citizens to save and also finding every view point. The game is also quite long and takes a decent amount of time to complete. You can also return to the game after a long break and if you get bored then you can simply move on to the next city.

Overall

Overall this is one of the best games that I have played on the Xbox 360. Although I am biased I have seen both the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions and yes they are exactly the same in terms of content but I believe that the picture is much clearer on the Xbox 360. Do not be put off by the bad reviews because it is simply people saying that it didn't live up to it's expectations. Yes a lot more could have been done but that is always the way. The game was eagerly anticipated and was being described as the greatest game ever. I would have to say that it is one of my favourite games that I have played on the Xbox so far.
