How to Revive Dead Companions in Baldur's Gate 3

During your adventure in Baldur's Gate 3, it's inevitable that one of your companions will fall and need to be resurrected. Unlike other games, when allies go down, you cannot restart a checkpoint until the entire party is eliminated, this makes it crucial that you know how to revive allies so you are able to fight on. This How to Revive Dead Companions in Baldur's Gate 3 will tell you everything you need to know.

How to Revive Dead Companions

In order to resurrect companions that have been killed in Baldur's Gate 3 you will have to dabble in necromancy. There are three different ways to bring dead companions back to life.

  • Use a Scroll of Revivify

Early in Baldur's Gate 3, the easiest way to revive a dead character is to use a Scroll of Revivify which will bring back a fallen companion to life with one hit point. Each character, including companions, starts with one Scroll of Revivify in their inventory. These single-use consumable items can be used by any class, regardless of their difficulty level.

This means you will have at least four Revivify scrolls to use for free, which will come in useful to resurrect fallen companions while you're still learning the combat mechanics of the game. Merchants occasionally sell scrolls of Revivify, but often incredibly expensive, costing hundreds of gold.

  • Cast the Revivify spell

Providing you have a healing class such as a Paladin or a Cleric in your party you will be able to learn Revivify upon reaching Level 2. In order to cast the Revivify spell you will require a Level 3 spell slot which means you will have to level up a lot before you can choose to use it. Like the Scroll of Revivify, it brings back a fallen teammate to life with one hit point.

One of the first companions in Baldur's Gate 3 that is capable of learning Revivify at Level 5 is Shadowheart the Half-Elf Cleric. Having the option to cast the Revivify spell will remove the need for her to carry Revivify scrolls.

  • Pay Withers 200 Gold

In Baldur's Gate 3, there is an NPC named Withers who for 200 Gold will resurrect dead characters. If you explore a bit in the starting area of your adventure, you will find Withers. There are some ruins in this area which are being guarded by bandits. After eliminating the bandits, you can explore the ruins and discover the Dank Crypt.

The Dank Crypt is a dungeon within which you will find a locked set of large double doors you can lockpick to enter a large chamber. If you keep going towards the far end, you will reach a dead end with a short set of stairs leading up. At the top of the stairs, you will find a button.

Press the button to open a door. Doing this will trigger a fight with some raised skeletons which you need to kill. Inside the chamber, you need to interact with the nearby sarcophagus to encounter Withers. Speak with Withers and then head back to camp to meet him there, where he'll now revive any dead companions for a fee of 200 Gold.
