A Brief History of Gaming Update

The World Wide Web is a fluid place where new sites appear -- and disappear -- with disturbing frequency and speed, so much so in fact that on any given day around half of the people who visit the average gaming site are arriving there for the very first time.

The experience of finding a site that has interesting content and a community presence that nicely fits in with your interests and likes is always a pleasant one, and when that site is in the process of establishing itself with a new focus and purpose, joining its community is an excellent opportunity for you to help shape that development through participation and suggesting the addition of elements that interest you.

Commenting on the articles, news, previews, reviews, and feature pieces at Gaming Update is an excellent means for participating in the process, and making the site your own as a member of the community -- and the fact that we here at GU are not only inviting that level of participation but also are encouraging it should communicate to you how welcome you really are!

All that aside though, wouldn't it be nice to know a bit of the history of our site as you help to create it? Unlike the vast majority of the sites we were referring to in the opening paragraph, Gaming Update is no Johnny-Come-Lately or a flash-in-the-pan -- it is not, in other words, part of that phenomenon. We have been here in our various forms for nearly 12 years -- over a decade of gaming goodness at the click of a mouse!

We are very excited about the new direction that we have taken, about providing excellent game and gaming news coverage, and the new design of our site, which in addition to looking good has also expanded the type and variety of content that we can deliver to you. Change is often disturbing, and we have received a few email messages from long-time members of the GU community concerned over the abrupt change to the new design, seeking assurances that we are indeed still headed in the right direction.

Those inquiries are not only a welcome communication, but an important one, so with that in mind, we thought it would be an idea to offer you a brief history of our site in the process of inviting you to become a part of it. After all, it is always easier to appreciate something if you know where it came from -- its provenance -- and where it plans on going, right?
