Top 10 Best Video Game Franchises

3) Pokemon

Based on the hugely popular anime and trading card game, Pokemon has been one of the most successful video game franchises ever since the first handheld games released on Game Boy in 1996. It came out in a series of three games, Red, Blue, and Green. Each game had some unique pokémon not found in the other versions which was a genius marketing tactic when you think about it. A few years later Pokemon Yellow was released for Game Boy Color. Pretty much everybody liked that one best because you could start with Pikachu.

Since then, dozens of Pokemon games have been released. There's Gold, Silver, Ruby, Sapphire, Crystal, Emerald, Diamond, Pearl, Platinum, Black and White, X and Y, the list goes on. The franchise has only seemed to grow larger and larger over time. Pokemon is one of those things that you play as a kid and then grow up and want to keep playing because it's still fun. The games are fantastic RPGs in their own right so there's nothing wrong with that at all. At the same time, new younger kids also get into the series thus further growing the fan base with this new blood.

According to numbers from VGChartz.com, Pokemon X/Y, the most recent release, has sold over 10 million copies worldwide. And this is to say nothing of the countless other Pokemon games on consoles such as Pokemon Pinball, Pokemon Snap, and Pokemon Stadium.
