League of Legends Patch 26.8 is live with Mel and Dr. Mundo nerfs, Lucian and Hwei buffs

League of Legends Patch 26.8

League of Legends Patch 26.8 is live, and it's a deliberately small one — Riot is holding most of the bigger system changes back for Season 2, which launches with Patch 26.9 on April 29. What you get here is a targeted balance pass on a handful of champions, the rollout of champion-specific keybinds, a Discord integration beta, and a set of ARAM and Arena adjustments.

Quick heads-up before anything else: 26.8 is the final patch of Ranked Season 1. Season 1 ends at 23:59:59 (regional local server time) on April 28, and Season 2 begins at 12:00:00 on April 29. If you've got LP goals, this is your window.

League of Legends Patch 26.8 at a glance

  • Nerfs: Mel, Dr. Mundo, Karma
  • Buffs: Lucian, Hwei, Lillia, Yuumi
  • Adjustments: Tahm Kench passive rebalance
  • Viego buff from the preview was pulled before release due to data discrepancies
  • Champion-specific keybinds live for both point-and-click and WASD
  • WASD Ranked release comes next patch (26.9), not this one
  • ARAM Mayhem: passive Augment movement speed reduced; tank and melee support item changes; Health Relic adjustments
  • New skins: PsyOps Vladimir, PROJECT: Sivir, Space Groove Zac, and PROJECT: Command Line Master Yi (Sanctum), plus Victorious Braum as a Ranked reward
  • Discord integration beta launches in US, Canada, and Brazil

  • Zilean and Zyra can no longer put a skill point into their W at level 1 (QoL fix)

Mel nerfs

Riot's stated reason for the Mel changes: her initial Q missile was hitting too hard whether she was ahead or behind, even when opponents dodged the rest of the spell. The fix shifts damage into the follow-up hits and trims how long her W mobility lasts.

The numbers:

  • Q initial explosion damage: 60/90/120/150/180 (+60% AP) → 60/85/110/135/160 (+55% AP)
  • W cooldown: 35/32/29/26/23 → 38/35/32/29/26 seconds
  • W bonus movement speed duration: 1.5 → 0.75 seconds

Dr. Mundo nerfs

Riot has said these changes are targeted at average-play jungle Mundo, and that top lane is in a more reasonable spot. The cuts land on his monster damage, slowing down his clear.

Monster damage cap: 300/375/450/525/600 → 250/325/400/475/550.

Karma nerfs

Second patch in a row for Karma. Riot says the 26.7 shield nerfs weren't as effective as intended, so 26.8 targets her E power and trims her base stats. The stated goal is making her more reliant on skillful ability usage than on generically strong baseline numbers.

Lucian buffs

Riot's framing here is about preserving Lucian's identity as a mobile ADC that dashes in and out of fights. His E cooldown and mana cost both come down, so he can reposition more often in lane.

E cooldown: 18/17/16/15/14 → 16/15.5/15/14.5/14 seconds.

E mana cost: 40/30/20/10/0 → 32/24/16/8/0.

Hwei buffs

Hwei's passive base damage gets a solid bump — Riot's framing is that they want him to be a combo mage rather than a walking waveclear tool, so the power is going into his combo output. There's also a bug fix bundled in that Riot expects to be a minor further nerf to him: his QE and R slows no longer stack with slows from other champions or items the way they were.

Passive base damage: 35–230 (Levels 1–18) → 40–285 (Levels 1–18). Hwei's ability slows now stack with diminishing values against each other.

Lillia buffs

Targeted at her jungle clear. Riot wants her move speed to translate into faster clearing, so her passive monster damage scales with level now instead of being a flat cap.

Passive monster damage cap: 65 → 70–180 (based on level).

Tahm Kench adjustments

Riot's framing: Dusk and Dawn has shifted Tahm Kench's balance too far toward top lane, so his passive is being rescaled to bring support back in line. The per-source breakdown is a lower base at early levels, a higher base at late levels, a slightly lower AP ratio, and a slightly lower bonus HP ratio.

Passive damage: 6–48 (Levels 1–11) → 5–60 (Levels 1–12). AP ratio: 1.5% per 100 bonus HP → 1.25% per 100 bonus HP. Bonus HP ratio: 4.5% → 4%.

Yuumi adjustments

This one is tied to a bug fix. Yuumi's ultimate had a bug where her attached ally was being healed again every time another ally was healed by the spell — effectively double-dipping. Riot is fixing that, and they've buffed her healing numbers to compensate (and then some, based on the values below).

Final Chapter heal per wave: 30/40/50 (+10% AP) → 30/50/70 (+12% AP). Best Friend Enhanced Heal: flat 30% → 30–60% (scaling Levels 6–12). Bug fix removes the extra heal to the attached ally per additional ally healed.

Viego was pulled from the patch

Worth flagging because Viego was in the public preview. Riot's lead designer Phroxzon flagged on April 8 that internal and external data on Viego's performance were telling different stories, and the Viego changes were removed from the patch shortly after to validate the data before shipping anything. He's not in 26.8.

Champion-specific keybinds (WASD waits one more patch)

This is the long-requested quality-of-life change. From 26.8 you can set per-champion keybinds for both point-and-click and WASD control schemes, and smart cast can be toggled on or off per champion.

One heads-up from Riot: you can't configure these from the main menu. You need to set them up in Practice Tool before queuing.

WASD movement itself is not landing in Ranked with 26.8 — that comes with Patch 26.9 alongside Season 2.

ARAM, Arena, and Clash

ARAM Mayhem continues to pull back passive and persistent movement speed from Augments. Several melee and tank support items get lower cooldowns to be more impactful in Mayhem's faster-paced fights, and the Health Relic system gets buffed to help address the mode's overall damage levels.

For Arena, Riot says the patch is opening up some alt build paths and giving ultimate cooldown reductions to champions whose ultimates are designed for bigger spaces.

The Ixtal Cup ARAM Clash tournament runs April 18–19, with registration open from April 13. Grab a five-stack if you want in.

Discord beta and new skins

Riot is rolling out Discord integration in beta for US, Canada, and Brazil this patch. Linked accounts let you invite Discord friends to parties directly, share party links in servers, and see which friends play other Riot games. More regions to follow.

New skins available April 15: PsyOps Vladimir, PROJECT: Sivir, and Space Groove Zac (all 1350 RP), plus PROJECT: Command Line Master Yi (Sanctum). Victorious Braum is the Ranked reward skin for the season.

Bottom line

26.8 is a small patch by design — the bigger changes arrive with Season 2 on 26.9. The priorities for anyone playing right now: close out your Season 1 ranked goals before April 28, check the number changes on any champions you play regularly, and spend a few minutes in Practice Tool setting up per-champion keybinds if the feature is useful to you.
