Get into the habit of eating something and drinking as soon as you wake up to ensure that you don't have to worry about replenishing those levels for a while when you go exploring. You will be able to gain food from various different sources that includes plants, insects, and by butchering animals. Fresh Water can be found at rivers and it is important that you keep your character well-hydrated at all times as lack of water may lead to their death.
