Im playing animal crossing new leaf with my sis. She made her town completely bare for tirantula and scorpion hunting. I would do the same but my town is in PERFECT condition and I want to get the golden watering can, so I have come to her town to hunt.
I have looked around the internet, and it said they don't spawn while the gate is OPEN. My sister CLOSED her gate while I was in her town... I have found no information that relates to scorpions and closed town gates DURING multiplayer.
Now, I think you may know what my question is by now, but if not, ill tell you: will tirantulas and scorpions spawn in local/wifi play if the town gate is closed?

I've read that Scorpions will not spawn in multiplayer, but couldn't find anything about Tarantulas. I would assume that both bugs follow similar spawning patterns though. Data does seem to be spotty at best, so I may be wrong.
I suggest keeping up the hunt until you get the golden watering can. If you haven't found either bug, then deforest your town. While you wait for the can, stock up on sapplings, flowers, and bushes (if you can yet) from Leif. Sure, your town will not look nice for a week or two, but it gives you something to do in-game for a while.
Unfortunately you can't catch or be stung/bitten by a tarantula or scorpion in multiplayer. It would be fun if they did spawn so you could work together to escape tarantulas and scorpions before they kill (bite/sting) you.
