First of all, this is completely normal, don't worry.
It's all down to what you're improving in the player's stats, for example, if you improve Ronaldo's speed, there is not much to improve on, to be honest, however say you improve his tackling, his overall will increase quicker. They will improve over time, but DO NOT expect older players to improve much, such as Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs; their stats are more like to decrease. So don't worry, keep maturing your players etc.
Secondly, Man Utd have a very large squad full of excellent players. Did you carefully select the spondor at the start of the season? Be sure to pick the sponsor that's giving you the most cash, over how good the logo looks, or whether they're a coffee company, or something cool like Ford, or sumit. You're going to have to decrease the old players wages, say give them a lengthly contract, and a lower wage structure, and get rid of/sell the decent players that are costing a lot to keep, for example, I doubt you use O'shea, Silvestre, Park etc, so sell them off.
If your financial situation becomes desperate, you will be fired.

Nothing to worry about really. At Manchester United, most of the players laready have brilliant stats so you can't improve that much. Also, it can take more than 5 games for the players to increase. Leave it a few more games, and you'll see them start to improve. Also, get young players. They improve the most and quickly. Did you make sure you picked the highest paying sponser? If you did, and you still have a problem, you'll have to sell a few players to lower the wage budget. Get rid of some of your squad players that you won't use much. You can replace them with good youngsters who don't require a high wage.
