Weapon Types

Star Trek Online has several different weapon types that are important for you to know as you level up. Some weapon types are only available at certain levels.

1-10 Phaser, Disruptor, Photon, Quantum
11-20 Plasma
20-30 Tetryon
31-40 Polaron, Transphasic, Chroniton
41-50 Antiproton, Tricobalt

Each has different procs, or an ability unique to each.

Phaser has a small chance to disable a subsystem in space and stun in ground
Disruptor has a small chance to reduce enemy damage resistance in both space and ground
Plasma has a small chance to apply a plasma fire which does DoT (damage over time) damage in both space and ground
Tetryon has a small chance to apply extra damage to shields in both space and ground
Polaron has a small chance to drain enemy power in space and disable enemy's weapon in ground
Antiproton has an increased critical chance and severity in both ground and space

Photon Torpedoes have the highest average DPS (Damage per second) and quickest reload.
Quantum Torpedoes have the highest average damage per torpedo/reload ratio
Plasma Torpedoes apply a plasma burn to the target doing extra DoT
Transphasic Torpedoes have a 40% shield penetration value, but do the lowest average damage
Chroniton Torpedoes have a 33% chance to slow the target
Tricobalt Torpedoes have the highest damage value of all torpedoes but take a long time to reload
